Adding a swimming pool to your property is a wonderful way to enhance your outdoor experience, and extend your living space beyond your patio.  Pools provide a relaxing way to cool off on hot days and are fun for the whole family, not to mention a way to get in some full-body exercise.

That’s why it’s important to select and invest in the right materials for your personal paradise.  At Gurley’s, we believe gunite is the way to go.

What is Gunite?

Gunite is a strong concrete mixture ideal for use in custom pool design.  When used by a trained Gurley’s professional, the results produced by gunite are sturdy and watertight.  It’s applied on-site by a special spray nozzle, compacting tightly over a rebar cage outline that will be the foundation of your dream pool.

Gunite Vs. Shotcrete

Both gunite and shotcrete are used in pool design.  They are both forms of concrete.  The primary difference between the two materials is how they’re mixed.  In Shotcrete, the mixture of sand and cement are combined in a hopper with water to create the thick goopy slurry most people are familiar with.

When using gunite, the dry mix is thoroughly combined in the hopper.  However, the water isn’t added until the mixture is fed through the hose and into a special nozzle at the last minute, coating the rebar frame of your pool.

Shotcrete is a premixed wet application, but a pool professional can adjust the water consistency on the fly as the product is being applied, allowing for more freedom and flexibility when designing your pool.

Gunite Pools Add Value To Your Home

A well-maintained pool is not only a joy for you but also to anyone who may purchase your home in the future.  Pools are a highly sought after amenity for homebuyers, especially if it’s clear the previous owners invested time and love into its design and materials.  Gunite is affordable and with many finishes to choose from, can match the style and aesthetics of your outdoor space with ease.

Why Gunite Is Best For Pools

Gunite is a clear winner when it comes to custom pool design.  Working with gunite allows clients the creative freedom to have our specialists build a stunning water feature and make their poolside dreams a reality.  Gunite is a strong building material that is applied on site as opposed to a pre-cast design that is shipped and installed at a later date.

Get Creative

The best part about using gunite to build your pool is the flexibility to create almost any shape and design addition possible.  When using gunite, our specialists design everything on site, from the site and shape of the hole to the reinforced rebar cage that creates the skeleton of your design.  During the design process, it’s easy to change or tweak the shape of your future pool.

Choosing gunite allows you to incorporate shapes and design elements that veer away from traditional pool structure.  Add seating, curves, contours, and even seamless steps or waterfalls to your pool with ease, and rely less on stock designs.  It’s your pool, and you deserve to get exactly what you want.

Beautiful

Above all else, your pool should be a beautiful feature of your home.  Gunite is sealed with plaster and marble dust, but can also be decorated with a variety of colorful pebble products, and tile.  Emblazon the bottom and sides of your pool with the patterns and designs that you love.
